Congratulations Klein Constantia and South Africa!
The wine quality revolution that began in South Africa two decades ago has reached a new pinnacle – for the first time, a South African wine has been named a Top 10 Wine of the Year by the Wine Spectator. We congratulate Klein Constantia for this historic achievement!
Klein Constantia was honored for its Vin de Constance 2009, a dessert wine made from Muscat de Frontignan.
Just last month, Jean Engelbrecht of Rust en Vrede represented South Africa at the Spectator‘s Wine Experience event in New York, and noted that “We have come a long way since 1994, when we became a fully fledged democracy and the doors of the world opened to us.”
The Top 10 placing for Klein Constantia comes 17 years after Rust en Vrede became the first red wine to be named among the Top 100 wines of the year.
