Els, Rust en Vrede in Spectator South Africa Report
The June 15, 2015, Wine Spectator features a big report on South Africa, and Rust en Vrede and Ernie Els have starring roles, with the Els Signature and Rust en Vrede 1694 Classification included on the list of “James Molesworth’s Recommended Wines from South Africa.”
93 Ernie Els Signature Stellenbosch
A dark, alluring style, with gunsmoke tea and warm ganache notes underscoring steeped currant fruit. Cabernet Sauvignon blend.
93 Rust en Vrede 1694 Classification Stellenbosch 2011
Dense, with a charcoal and roasted savory frame around intense plum, cassis and blackberry fruit. Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Molesworth also points to the wineries in the text of his article. In talking about South African Cabs, he writes: “Another terrific buy is the Rust en Vrede Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch 2012 (91, $29), a red that brims with grippy roasted tobacco and cedar notes along with flavors of steeped currant, warmed fig, loam and baker’s chocolate.” And the Ernie Els Big Easy White gets a nod as a good value selection with “refreshing white peach, fennel and apple flavors.”
