Rust en Vrede, Guardian Peak in Wine Spectator
The April 30, 2015, Wine Spectator features 90+ reviews for three Terlato South Africa portfolio wines – two from Rust en Vrede and one from Guardian Peak. Here are the reviews by the Spectator‘s longtime South Africa expert, Senior Editor James Molesworth:
93 Rust en Vrede Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch Single Vineyard 2011
“A grippy style, with ganache and licorice snap notes dotting the edges of the fruitcake, plum sauce and blackberry preserve-filled core. A briary accent adds energy to the finish, lending this hefty wine good focus and balance. Best from 2016 through 2025.”
93 Rust en Vrede 1694 Classification Stellenbosch 2011
“A broad-shouldered, dense style, with a charcoal and roasted savory frame around a core of intense plum, cassis and blackberry fruit. Lots of cedar and tobacco notes underscore the finish, while the fruit courses throughout. Should unwind with cellaring. Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2016 through 2022.”
90 Guardian Peak Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch Lapa 2012
“This is solid, with an iron edge to the mouthwatering red and black currant fruit, while tobacco, sanguine and savory notes are inlaid through the finish. Offers a streamlined, focused feel. Drink now through 2017.”
