Rupert Cabernet Sauvignon, Franc Score with WS
Two wines from Anthonij Rupert are among the “exciting new discoveries” highlighted by the Wine Spectator in the latest edition of the magazine’s members-only Wine Spectator Insider. Here are the reviews from senior editor and South Africa expert James Molesworth:
Cabernet Franc Coastal Region 2009
92 points | $90 | 2,000 cases made | Red
This has a rustic feel, with bittersweet cocoa and smoldering tobacco leaf notes coating the core of dark currant, steeped black cherry and licorice root flavors. A roasted alder edge lines the finish. Drink now through 2020.
Cabernet Sauvignon Coastal Region 2009
92 points | $80 | 2,000 cases made | Red
A big, broad-shouldered style, with dark espresso, ganache and steeped plum notes layered with fig paste and smoldering tobacco details. Best from 2015 through 2020.
These reviews were released in the June 11, 2014, Insider, and will be featured in an upcoming issue of the magazine.
