Guardian Peak Lapa: 92 Points from Spectator

lapaA “lapa” is a sort of gazebo, traditionally with a thatch roof, that is common in South Africa, where the climate and culture make outdoor dining and entertaining a key feature of family life – and Lapa is the name Guardian Peak gives to its Cabernet Suavignon, the perfect wine to enjoy with a sizzling filet off the grill on a warm summer night (they’ll get here eventually). Here’s an outstanding review of the latest vintage of the Lapa Cabernet Sauvignon, from the Wine Spectator:

Guardian Peak
Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch Lapa 2011
92 points | $41 | 1,150 cases made | Red
Shows good density, with layers of fig, plum paste and currant preserves lined with sweet tobacco leaf and well-toasted vanilla notes. Long and polished through the finish, revealing a buried iron accent for contrast. Solidly built. Drink now through 2018.—J.M.

This review by James Molesworth appeared in the Feb. 12 Wine Spectator Insider, which provides Spectator subscribers an advance look at the top wines that will be published in upcoming issues of the magazine.
