Guardian Peak Lapa: 92 Points from Spectator
A “lapa” is a sort of gazebo, traditionally with a thatch roof, that is common in South Africa, where the climate and culture make outdoor dining and entertaining a key feature of family life – and Lapa is the name Guardian Peak gives to its Cabernet Suavignon, the perfect wine to enjoy with a sizzling filet off the grill on a warm summer night (they’ll get here eventually). Here’s an outstanding review of the latest vintage of the Lapa Cabernet Sauvignon, from the Wine Spectator:
Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch Lapa 2011
92 points | $41 | 1,150 cases made | Red
Shows good density, with layers of fig, plum paste and currant preserves lined with sweet tobacco leaf and well-toasted vanilla notes. Long and polished through the finish, revealing a buried iron accent for contrast. Solidly built. Drink now through 2018.—J.M.
