South Africa Shines at Decanter Awards
The rise of South African wines continues. Decanter magazine says that “South Africa excelled” at the magazine’s recent World Wine Awards, with its “best result ever.” Master of Wine Lynne Sherriff, who oversaw the judging of the South Africa wines, said “what really exceeded my expectations was the consistent performance across such a diverse range of grape varieties, regions and sub-regions.”
Among the winning wines – the 2010 Rust en Vrede Estate, which took home a silver medal, and the 2010 Ernie Els Merlot and the 2011 Els Proprietor’s Blend, both of which received bronze medals. Here are the tasting notes from the judges.
