Ernie Els Signature Blend: Consistent Excellence
The Ernie Els Signature Stellenbosch has continued a rare and impressive streak of high ratings from the Wine Spectator, with the 2009 bottling receiving a 92-point score from the magazine’s man on South Africa, James Molesworth.
Here’s the tasting note from Molesworth, in the Buying Guide of the Oct. 15, 2013, Spectator:
92 Ernie Els Signature Stellenbosch 2009
A ripe, edgy Cabernet, with a savory note adding depth and texture to the core of plum sauce, red currant paste and lightly mulled fig fruit. The mouthwatering finish offers finely beaded acidity, showing ample grip. Should settle in with a touch of cellaring. Drink now through 2017. 592 cases made.-J.M.
This is the fifth straight vintage in which the Ernie Els Signature – a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc – has received a score of 90 points or better, a remarkable demonstration of consistent excellence.
